Darling Beast by Elizabeth Hoyt Review

Darling Beast (Maiden Lane, #7)Darling Beast by Elizabeth Hoyt

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I started reading this book this morning. Now I want to say that this is not the first book I've picked up over the past six weeks but it was the one that kept my attention. I think that says a lot about Ms. Hoyt's work.

I'm not particularly attached to either the hero or the heroine. I read Duke of Midnight with Artemis. I enjoyed her story more what with the plain companion and the duke and the like.

That's not to say I didn't enjoy this book. I really loved the bits with Daff and Indio. I think they were the best. I liked the reveal of his background.

With saying that I didn't quite love this book. It was nice to read but I didn't love it like I did with some of Ms. Hoyt's other work. It's a nice addition but it didn't quite have that POP! I'm excited to read the next Maiden Lane series.

And I like the snippets of Asa. I am dying to read his story.

Three stars. Entertaining story but lacking in that POP.

The Stranger I Married Review + Vlog Update

The Stranger I MarriedThe Stranger I Married by Sylvia Day

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I picked up this book based purely on the cover. I glanced at the title and blurb but lbr the cover got me. Not the original one but the reddish one.

I really enjoyed this book. I liked Gray and Pel as the main. But partway through I grew more intrigued with Trenton and Abby. I legit enjoyed their bits the most. I'm sad this is a single title.

4 Stars. I really liked it but I didn't love it.

I'm intending to change the layout around here. I also changed the name of the blog but I don't know if that's taken affect. I'll update the url change on the blogger list.

Three Weeks with Lady X by Eloisa James

Three Weeks With Lady X (Desperate Duchesses, #7)Three Weeks With Lady X by Eloisa James

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

So I want to confess before I start this review that I did not read the book featuring Thorn's father. I do intend to but I was so fucking excited when I found out that she was doing a series about one of the kids from the Desperate Duchesses series that I didn't care. I wanted that book and I have waited patiently for it.

It was often mentioned that Thorn was a lot like Villers. Again since I haven't read his book I'm not quite sure. But I feel like Thorn was less...cocky than Villers. Idk I can't quite put my finger on it. They were alike but different. I don't know. I am going off my impressions of Villers from four of the DD books so.

I really like India despite her ridiculous name. The grammar thing really endeared her to me. I also like that India and Thorn boned over their issues with their family. Family is a big theme with me. So I really liked those parts. And the parts with Rose! She really reminded me of an online friend with her somberness but acute eye you know? I really like that.

I give this book four stars. I really enjoyed it. I really did it. But I can't quite rate it five stars for some reason. But it is a really good book.

I was just thinking as I got ready to post this about something the title made me think about? It was of my ranting points about the YA genre that the H/Hr seemed to fall in love out of thin air? It irked me. It still irks me. But as I was thinking about that title and the fact that it happened in three weeks I'm starting to wonder. Am I hypocrite?

I mean the relationship times are similar. But I guess with the YA romances I've read the plot may be focused on something else. The main plot of a romance is the developing of a relationship so I suppose that might be why I don't feel like the relationships are as developed in the YA especially since my main reading genre at the time was paranormal romance so of course there's stuff going in the background so perhaps the romance gets rushed? Idk I was just thinking about that.

What about you? Do you think relationships in romance develop too quick? It can be either in the adult or the young adult genre. I'm interested in hearing people's thoughts on this.

Reckless Seduction by Jane Feather Review

Reckless SeductionReckless Seduction by Jane Feather

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I started this book because of a challenge. Though I had bought the book beforehand I'm not sure if I would have picked it up otherwise. I mean obviously I intended to read it. But sometime in the near future which could be any time in the next five years.

So I started this. It was a bit strange at first. It took me a moment to get into the flow of the book. Like I wrote on my status I was initially interested because not only did it take place in America but also in Louisiana, which is my homestate.

So I started to read. I immediately liked Genevieve. She's my type of girl. You know feisty, hard headed. Dominic. It took me a minute to warm up to him.

What I loved about this book was how excited I was to pick it back up. I looked forward to reading it. I love it when that happens. While it focused on the characters I feel like the plot was very action orientated. It was a nice ride.

I've checked out another book by Ms. Feather and I'm planning on reading that next. Let's just hope that I can finished my challenge.

It took me forever from when I originally bought this book to actually get around to reading it. I thank the challenge for that. I'm trying out some new stuff. This book is heavy on action but the characters are really well done. Dominic can get jerky at times I admit but I will say that I could understand why he was being a jerk. He just wasn't a jerk for the sake of being a jerk.

I have become fascinated with this woman. It amazes me that if she were alive today she would be my grandma's age yet I like she's me. Idk I just feel connected to her. A bit too much I think.

Married by Morning by Lisa Kleypas Review

Married By Morning (The Hathaways, #4)Married By Morning by Lisa Kleypas

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

So although a fair bit, it isn't usual that I spend a chunk of time reading a book unless I really like the book. I really enjoyed this book.

Leo and Cat or Marks as he calls her chemistry is simply out of this world. I have to admit I had a think for the will they or won't they-bickering type of relationship. I have a bit of experience with those myself haha.

I could completely understand Cat's hesitation to accept someone into her life. She has a dark past and I think Ms. Kleypas handled it well. It didn't seem to rushed.

Leo...he's a good hero. I vastly preferred him as a hero to Harry though I am really fond of Harry's name.

The epilogue? Perfect. I can't wait to read Bea's story though I'm sad I won't have any more adventures with the Hathaways. I've become quite fond of them.

Tempt Me at Twilight by Lisa Kleypas

Tempt Me at Twilight (The Hathaways, #3)Tempt Me at Twilight by Lisa Kleypas

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

So this book started out really interesting. Usually the hero and the heroine get together a little later than Harry and Poppy did but they showed interest within the first chapter.

Harry is...I mean I understand his feeling in this book but I really don't like his methods I mean I don't like the way he essentially ruined all of Poppy's chances. He sent the letter to Michael's father and basically cornered her into marriage by kissing her outside on the balcony and having everyone see them. I am glad with the way Poppy and her family reacted but lbr a marriage made under false pretenses is doomed to fail and I'm sure if the book wasn't a romance it would have fell apart in another genre. So while I enjoyed this book I can't really get behind their relationship because of how it started.

The epilogue though? I am so looking forward to it and I'm debating whether to start the next book now or wait. I don't know yet.

I really enjoyed this book. But I couldn't really enjoyed because of how their relationship started. It's just too much for me and if I were in Poppy's shoes I think I would be really resentful. So yeah this is a good book but I think a tad bit unrealistic. But still a nice book.

Duke of Midnight by Elizabeth Hoyt Review

Everytime I see the title I say it in a dramatic voice. Like imagine the narrator of the primetime soap opera or something. Put the emphasis on Duke.

Anyway yes I have finished it! I really, really liked it. I didn't love it but I really enjoyed this book you guys. It isn't my favorite of Hoyt's work but I think it's a good entry on her bibliography. Anyway enough of that and on to the review.

Duke of Midnight (Maiden Lane, #6)Duke of Midnight by Elizabeth Hoyt

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Haha once again the subplot of the previous book gives a clue to who the hero and heroine will be in the next book. I CANNOT WAIT FOR THIS!

Finished on Oct. 25, 2013

Okay! So I was really excited about this book. I read the previous book about a week or so ago into preparation for this one. Honestly I wasn't expecting to actually be able to read it until around the end of the moment. But I won it!

This book...I really enjoyed it. Of course when I read the blurb I immediately thought...it's the goddamn Batman!

Maximus does seem to have a lot in common with the Bat guy. He fights crime by night and by day he's a powerful duke...okay not completely but you get the general idea.

Artemis...I really liked her. She's...I'm trying to find the right words to describe her. She's first shown as unobtrusive. You aren't likely to notice her but I like that she is confident in herself. I mean being in her position I don't think I would be as confident and self assured as I read her to be. She's sure about her brother. She decides what she wants even though she knows it can only hurt her. I really liked her.

The mystery? Well I thought that the murderer was going to be someone else but it turned to be someone completely different. I guess it kinda came out of left field. I mean I feel like it would have been a complete twist if it was someone else. Lol I mean I just thought it was the assuming person at first but it wasn't which is a tad bit sad. That would have been awesome.

So how do I rate this? I really enjoyed the book but it's not in the LOVE it category either. But I did stay up to finish it which hasn't happened in a long, long time. So I think I can safely rate it 4 stars. Very intriguing but doesn't quite has that bang.

Lord of Darkness by Elizabeth Hoyt Review

Hello my lovelies I return. I have been reading frequently but like my attention span it jumps around. I finally finished one though. It was a good one.

Lord of Darkness (Maiden Lane, #5)Lord of Darkness by Elizabeth Hoyt

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

So I confess that I picked up this book because the latest one is coming out. It's not like I wasn't intending on reading it eventually, but I got excited that another was about to be released so I jumped on this one.

Megs situation intrigued me. It could have been done very badly but I think Ms. Hoyt made it work. I wasn't completely sure about Godric. To be honest as a hero he doesn't quite make my heart flutter but he was adequate.

This installment was okay. I really didn't love as much as I did the others. I guess it's because while I enjoyed it, it really didn't have that BANG. It was good, enjoyable, but I didn't completely love it.

But I am really interested to see what Ms. Hoyt does with the upcoming book. The characters of that one were introduced in the subplot of this one. I'm really looked forward to it.

So three stars for Lord of Darkness. Enjoyable but didn't quite have that bang.

It Happened One Midnight by Julie Anne Long Review and Spoilers

It Happened One Midnight (Pennyroyal Green, #8)It Happened One Midnight by Julie Anne Long

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book...this book!

This book managed to keep my attention for more than two days. From the start I absolutely loved Jonathan and Tommy. Their personalities shine through from the page. I loved how their relationship developed throughout the book. And I love how they teased each other! I was cackling so hard while reading this book.

I loved the end where Jonathan makes enough money so he be independent and be free to marry Tommy. I love how he lays things out before his Dad. He challenges him because he loves Tommy and he knows that she is what he wants.

I liked the epilogue where Violet and Miles show up. The end left me with a little hope that the family will come back together and patch up things between them. What more can you ask for?

I think I'm going to add this book to my favorites shelf. I loved it that much!

Loving Lady Marcia by Kieran Kramer Mini Review

I know it has been awhile since I updated, but that is because the Sims bug bit me sometime in late January and it is just not easing up. But after false starts with my reading, I finally finished one.

Loving Lady Marcia (House of Brady, #1)Loving Lady Marcia by Kieran Kramer

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

What can I say about this book?

First off, I was really excited to buy it. I'm sure many children of my generation grew up watching the Brady Bunch, but I wasn't sure how this would translate to literature.

I was worried that Marcia would be...how should I say...perfect? I don't know that's just the vibe that I get from her on the show or maybe I've been sipping too much of Jan's juice, whatever.

This Marcia wasn't perfect, but I couldn't really connect to her like I have with other romance heroines. I really liked Duncan and Joe was such a cutie.

But what I really loved about this book was the humor. Ms. Kramer has a good grip on it, I'd say. I know out of the four books I've read from her, I distinctively remember laughing out loud at least once with each of them. I love that.

I would recommend this book, though it shares some things with the TV series, I think it comes into its own.

Pride & Passion by Charlotte Featherstone Review

Long time no see huh? I've been a bit distracted this year, but I'm still reading, if not at the same pace as previous years. Below is a book I really enjoyed and that I highly recommend.

Pride & Passion (The Brethren Guardians, #2)Pride & Passion by Charlotte Featherstone

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Wow this book. It really lives up to its title.

The things that stood out the most for me in this addition to the series were the emotions. All of the characters emotions seemed so real. Like when Adrian was pining for Lucy, I could really feel that, you know?

And that doesn't even begin to explain the scenes between Lucy and Adrian. Those moments were so intense that I was literally going "Damn" while I was reading it. It has been a long time since I've read a book with such intensity.

And then the reveal near the end? I totally did not expect that. I mean it literally came out of nowhere and I didn't expect it.

So five stars for me. I can't wait to read the next installment.

The Taming of the Rake by Kasey Michaels Mini Review

I am back fair followers! Over December I didn't read as many books as I did in 2011 because I had access to the internet and thus I didn't pay as much attention to my books. I read 86 regular fiction books in 2012, which was just a bit short of my 2011 goal. This year I've set it to 70, so we'll see how 2013 goes reading wise.

Here's my 2nd book of the year:

The Taming of the Rake (Blackthorn Brothers, #1)The Taming of the Rake by Kasey Michaels

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed this book! I read the third of the series fast, so I was expecting something similar to that. But this one stood out on its own.

I loved the characters especially Puck! Oh my god Puck made me gut laugh so many freaking times like really. And then when Jack does appear, he's as brooding as he is in own book and let me tell you, I quite enjoy a brooding hero, thank you for that Charlotte Bronte.

The end was perfect I think and although Claudia's brother and sister were on the opposing side, I really liked reading about them and I'm glad that Francis came to his senses.

I can't wait to read Puck's story!

Duchess by Night by Eloisa James review

Duchess By Night (Desperate Duchesses, #3)Duchess By Night by Eloisa James
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

After reading the first book in the Desperate Duchesses series I was looking forward to reading the second book. Unlucky for me though I hadn't bought it, although I thought I did, it turns out I missed it.

But I didn't want to wait to read more of the series, so I thought "Why not go ahead and read the third book?" I felt terribly bad because I usually like to read my books in their order, but I just couldn't help it as the promise of reading about the hijinks of all the duchesses prevailed.

So I started reading. It took me a minute to get into the book. I remember loving Desperate Duchesses after the first fifty pages. It took me awhile to love this one. My first complaint was that it didn't seem as funny as the first book and I don't think it is. I think the humor in this book is more subtle.

After the first 120 pages I grew to love the characters. I waited eagerly for the moment when Jem would discover that Harry Cope aka Harriet was a woman. When he finally confronted her, I thought it was perfect. I love the way Ms. James sat that up.

The rest of the book was lovely and I knew the moment when Jem and Harriet would separate was coming up. I didn't dread it, I just wanted to know how they would find their way back to each other.

I thought the end was satisfying with both Jem and Harriet realizing their mistakes and what they each wanted.

The epilogue was sweet as well.

The Housemaid's Scandalous Secret by Helen Dickson Review

Castonbury Park: Scandalous Whispers: The Wicked Lord Montague\The Housemaid's Scandalous SecretCastonbury Park: Scandalous Whispers: The Wicked Lord Montague\The Housemaid's Scandalous Secret by Carole Mortimer
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

After I saw the ad of this series come up on my feed on Facebook, I knew it had to read them. Even though I've only watched a bit of the first series of Downton Abbey and I haven't seen the original Upstairs/Downstairs TV series, I was enthralled about reading about the lives of both the gentry and the servants.

All through this book, the author kept my attentions with Ross and Lisette's love story. I liked that even though Lisette was his servant, she spoke her mind even when he was being kind of an arse.

I thought the end was perfect.

The Serpent Prince by Elizabeth Hoyt Review

The Serpent Prince (Princes Trilogy, #3)The Serpent Prince by Elizabeth Hoyt
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Is it possible to love a series as much do this one? I think this was a perfect end to the trilogy. Simon was the perfect hero for me. He was handsome and passionate, but he had a funny bone. I mean the letter to Lucy at the end of the book was so romantic, but then he added the little post script and I howled out loud. I think The Serpent Prince might overcome my love of the Raven Prince. I just found out that there is a novella to this series, so isn't completely over. Thank goodness for that.

The Wicked Lord Montague by Carole Mortimer Review

The Wicked Lord Montague (Castonbury Park #1)The Wicked Lord Montague by Carole Mortimer
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I have been looking forward to reading this series ever since I saw it show up on my Facebook feed. I've never watched the Upstairs Downstairs drama that popularized this type of books, but I've started Downton Abbey and after reading this book, I certainly want to watch both dramas.

Giles throughout the book seemed was pompous and arrogant and he eventually showed his softer side. I thought he seemed to embody what a man of his class would be like in that situation. I thought that added more realism to the story. I don't think I would have bought it if he weren't.

Lily was a great heroine, she stood up for herself, but she could always recognize her feelings for Giles, even though she didn't want them.

The only squabble I had with the book was even though there were good Romani, I thought the reveal with Mrs. Lovell's nephew was a bit...idk I thought it fell to a stereotype. Now I don't know much about the Romani people, but I didn't think it was needed.

I have the second book of the series and I am looking forward to reading it!

Seduction & Scandal by Charlotte Featherstone Review

Seduction & Scandal (The Brethren Guardians, #1)Seduction & Scandal by Charlotte Featherstone
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I bought this book awhile ago. It wasn't until I went in search of a book on my crowded bookshelves and discovered this one hiding that I picked it up.

The main story is about Isabella and Black. I liked that Black could admit that he loved Isabella, since so many romance heroes seem to be love-phobes. Isabella was actually the more reluctant one in the relationship. She was afraid of going down her mother's path, which is understandable.

There was two other subplots. One was about the objects of the Templars which Black and his associates of the Brotherhood had been tasked to protect. I'm a sucker for stuff that has to do with religion (Which is strange since I'm kind of eh about religion in my personal life).

The other subplot was with Lucy, Isabella's cousin, dealing with the supernatural and trying (view spoiler)[ to reach her dead lover or so I think he's dead, but the end of this book left off with Sussex giving her some lace which she had gave her lover. It was kind of confusing to me, but it sets up the next book. I might have to go back and read that. (hide spoiler)]

I only give the book four stars because while interesting, I didn't really like the story within a story. Isabella was writing a novel. I was okay with it at first, but after awhile it got tedious, but that's how I feel personally. I did think it was fun to read though.
